Committee: Education

2025 Mission:
The mission of the Education Committee is to support and strengthen the membership of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association (MSFCA) by providing high-quality, relevant educational workshops at the Annual Conference, and by promoting additional educational opportunities throughout the year.

2025 Report:
We are excited to welcome you to Duluth for the 2025 MSFCA Annual Conference. This year’s program features a wide variety of class sessions designed to meet the diverse needs of our membership. The Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) offers exceptional classroom spaces that allow us to deliver outstanding training experiences for all attendees.

One of the primary objectives of the Education Committee is to bring relevant topics and respected instructors to the members of our association. Our team is made up of dedicated fire service professionals from across the state who are committed to curating an impactful educational experience.

The Education Committee meets in person three times per year, with the majority of our planning and coordination occurring electronically through subcommittees. This structure allows us to remain responsive, efficient, and effective in our mission to deliver high-caliber training to Minnesota’s fire service leaders.

Education Committee Goals:

  1. Acknowledge that every Chief plays a vital role in the MSFCA, and therefore we must actively listen and respond to the educational needs of our diverse membership.
  2. Identify current and emerging topics in the fire service and secure well-regarded subject matter experts to present on those issues.
  3. Maintain an affordable conference experience by working responsibly within our allotted budget.
  4. Consistently deliver high-quality training and engaging speakers to all MSFCA members and conference attendees.

The Education Committee is intentionally designed to be inclusive, adaptable, and welcoming. While some members rotate off each year, our structure allows us to integrate new volunteers seamlessly. If you're looking to get more involved with the MSFCA, we invite you to consider joining our committee.

We also welcome your suggestions for future conference topics and speakers. Your feedback helps us stay relevant and responsive to the needs of our members.

In addition to our work on the Annual Conference, the Education Committee organizes the Fire Officer & Training Officer Schools (now the Leadership Development Academy) in Alexandria and Duluth. These events are specifically tailored to support new and emerging officers and command staff. We encourage you and your leadership teams to attend:

  • Alexandria: February 7-8, 2026
  • Duluth: March 14 -15 2026
