Issues of State/National Interest: Tim Pohlman gave an update as to what is happening on the MSFCA board; more details are on the website or see him afterwards if you have questions. Summer Meeting Minutes
July 19, 2011
Springfield Community Center
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by President Dan Cline with the Pledge of Allegiance. Springfield Fire Chief Charlie Baumann welcomed everyone to Springfield on a hot evening. He stated that the heat index was 120 degrees. Retired fireman and Mayor of Springfield Mark Brown also welcomed everyone to Springfield.
Roll call was taken with 129 members present representing 29 departments.
The minutes of the previous meeting were presented with a motion by Blue Earth second by North Mankato to approve. Motion carried.
Vice President Brandenberg gave a report on the Safe Escape House. The hitch needed to have some work done to it. It is repaired and safety chains have been added. He also stated that there was a report that $7 million of the $8.5 million they took from the Fire Safety Account would be reinstated.
The Treasurer’s report was presented with a motion by North Mankato second by Nicollet to approve. Motion carried.
Jay Wood and Ken Prillaman gave a presentation on the Firefighter Memorial being planned. There was a motion by President Dan Cline second by Lake Crystal to donate $750 to this project. Odin made an amended motion to donate $1500. Lake Crystal seconded the motion. Lafayette questioned why we as a region need to donate at this time when we should give other departments a chance to donate. All monies donated will be returned if the $600,000 is not raised by the end of this year. If more than that is raised it would go into the Scholarship Fund. The motion to donate $1500 was carried.
