Special Guests: This was our Annual School. Instructors provided by Minnesota West Community and Technical College. Warren Jorgenson.
Program: The annual school provided all members the opportunity to attend classes that were pertinent to the on-going support of the Southwest Region. Classes included New Vehicle issues, First Arriving officers, Scene Safety on highway incidents, and Grain bin awareness and rescue.
Issues of Local Interest: Many departments were concerned about the recruitment and retention issue. What can be done to provide for small local volunteer departments? There was plenty of discussion regarding the weather and flooding that occurred in the fall of the year. Several counties have now updated plans for coverage in case of flooding. Pretty much caught everyone by surprise. Several departments are in the process of evaluating and updating their local and regional mutual aid agreements. There were some locations that did not have primary fire coverage due to inaccessible roads, this was in locations that most members could not remember ever seeing water over the roads. Discussion on the ARMER system was also provided.
Issues of State/National Interest: Review of Fire prevention week and addressed the request from the State Fire Marshall regarding information of the Employer recognition programs or articles.
Other Comments: Said good bye to Warren Jorgenson and thanked him for all of his past services to the Minnesota Fire Departments.
