3. MnFAC Already Hard at Work.
The MnFAC Joint Legislative Committee is already hard a work trying to educate our newest Legislators and the Governor. We have a meeting with the Governors Public Safety Staff this week. Sherry Munyon and Bill Stusinski, our favorite lobbyists, are visiting all of our legislators. There will be some action items that will require us to contact our Senators and Representatives. Watch
the Home page of the MSFCA website regularly for these calls for help. These contacts won't take much of your time and we will provide sample letters/e-mails for you to use. The MnFAC Committee meets weekly during the legislative session.
MnFAC has enjoyed the support of most of the fifteen regions over the last several years. If our organization can show some support with a cash donation it would be appreciated. Your opinion counts. Attached to my last report was an opinion sheet. I hope you filled it out and sent it back to us.
4. MnFAC Legislative Platform
I have attached this form to this report. It is important that this gets in the hands of every firefighter. A full color version is available at MSFCA.org. On the home page look for the legislative report dated December 21, 2010. You can down load this report from there.
5. Fire Service Day at the Capitol
Fire Service Day at the Capitol is Thursday March 10, 2011. Registration information is also available attached to this report or on the MSFCA website.
6. MSFCA Mutal Aid and F.A.S.T. Team
Have you heard the news? There is going to be a flood. The Minnesota Fire Service is ready. Several of you were asked to participate last year and then got cancelled because the waters receded quicker than expected.
What will happen again this year is the command center will call the regional directors and tell them what their personnel and equipment needs are. They will also give us exact dates. The region director will then call our departments and fill these needs and report back to the command center. The command center will then contact the resource direct and give them a response number and contact. They will send you home if you respond without this response number.
If you are interested in a deployment for your department, let me know by e mailing me your departments contact information (name, phone, & email address). My contact information is listed above.
7. Kitchen Fire Training Trailers
Over the next two years there will be two more kitchen fire demonstration trailers available for use in our communities. The first one should be available in about 6 months. These are being donated by the Minnesota Insurance Fair Plan. There will be a cost to rent these and you will have to attend a Train the Trainer
program to learn to operate them safely. The cost will cover the cost of updates,
maintenance and insurance. Watch the website.
8. Minnesota Fire Service Foundation Scholarship
I have attached a copy of the Minnesota Fire Service Foundation Scholarship Application. These scholarships are for $1,000 each. Winners are chosen by lottery.
