MSFCA Regional Report

Special Guests: George Esbensen Eden Prarie Fire Chief, Jim Immattaeo, Rich Klies from the Fire Marshal's Office.

Program: George gave an excellent presentation for the fire service memorial. We passed the hat and $182.00 was contributed. At the next meeting the Arrowhead Reg. will be making a donation. Jim introduced himself and told us about his status with the fire marshal’s office.

Issues of Local Interest: 1. Grand Rapids. Hibbing and Chisholm each gave their activities for 911.  2. Paula Castleman from Lake Superior College updated us on what’s available and to go to the website for more information www.lsc.ccmn.us/ERTC/firetraining.cfm   3. Steve Flaherty from Mesabi Range told us about National Frie Academy Classes being offered. an Extrication Classes. You can use voucher dollars for this.   4. Fire Wire information please go to www.nlfirewire.com   5.  We had much discussion on dates and times of our meeting and the new schedule will be as follows, December and February will be held on Saturday and May and September will be held on Thursday.  6. Bob Brown was made an honorary life member of the Arrowhead Region.  7. Nominations were held for the Chief's Association Director and Steve Flaherty was nominated. Elections will be held in December.  8. Rex Lentner was elected as secretary of the Arrowhead Region for another 2 years.  9. Greg Taylor from the VFBA reminded us to enroll new members ASAP to avoid any problems. Also remember you have 30 days to report any injury for lost time. There is no increase in premiums this year. 10. Certification Board please see web site www.Mfscb.org.   

Issues of State/National Interest: 1. DNR was not in attendance but Brian Haugen can be contacted at 218-372-3870 or brian.w.haugen@state.mn.us.   2. Rich KIies gave us an update from the Fire Marshal's Office. Several classes will be held in 2012.  At this date Jerry has not been reappointed to his position.  3. Bruce West is now the Executive Director of the Board of Firefighter Training and Education. All 790 depts. received awards this year with the new format. 4300 licenses have been issued to firefighters this year. Those licenses will be good for three years and require continuing education.  RFP's for live burn instructor training have been called for. This will certify live burn instructors.  4. Legislation, George Esbensen is looking ideas for the next legislative session. We also need ides on how to protect the Fire Safety Account.
