The mission of the Executive Committee is to make decisions related to the day-to-day operations of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association as authorized by the Board of Directors, to make recommendations for the position of Executive Director and to prepare the Association’s annual budget for presentation to the Board.

 

2011 Executive Committee - Marty Scheerer

The Executive Committee, along with the Finance Committee, is tasked to recommend a one year budget and design a long-range financial plan for the Association. Idyllically, members of the Association would help guide us on our programs and initiatives and help us construct our future budgets.

The Executive Committee was also asked to proactively review and identify the most effective Board size and structure, as well as clarify the duties of the Board. The Executive Committee is proposing a new bylaw, streamlining the Board by having the Past Presidents remain on to Board for 2 years, instead of a permanent position. This will help reduce the cost of Board operations. The Executive Committee also has been considering how to increasing effectiveness of the Board, the regional meetings and roles of Board members.

The Executive Committee met in June at the MSFDA Conference in Detroit Lakes with the MSFDA Executive Board. In years past the entire MSFCA Board held a meeting as well, the decision was made to only have the Executive Board meet in June. This was done to reduce cost and to the Association and to Board members. This strategy worked out well and we plan on meeting this way again next year unless a pressing issue arises for the Board to discuss.

I would like to thank Jeff Swanson for his years of service as Past President and a longtime member of the Executive Board. Jeff’s leadership was continuously welcomed and he was emphatically benevolent at bringing the rural fire department perspective to the Board.
